Abstract

To insure the safe clearing of NEPE propellant charge, a feasibility analysis of high pressure waterjet clearing NEPE propellant charge was carried out. Using the compressive strength of NEPE propellant at 20℃ as the failure criterion, clearing experiments verified the waterjet over the pressure range from 30 MPa to 50 MPa can effectively break NEPE propellant, and higher waterjet pressure, better clearing efficiency. The impacting safety and secondary risk in the clearing process were analyzed. Results show that under the waterjet action within 50MPa, the shock initiation and thermal ignition/initiation of NEPE propellant do not occur. The possibility of dust explosion in the clearing process does not exist. The nitrate plasticizer after clearing does not depart from the original curing system and waste drugs do not exhibit higher risk. The existing high-pressure waterjet clearing technology, which strictly controls jet pressure and clearing time, can be used in the clearing of NEPE propellant charge.
