In order to research the flight stability of mortar projectiles using lateral pulse jet control for trajectory correction, the impulse force and moment were analyzed, and the mathematical model for the trajectory was established. Relying on some assumptions, the equation of angle of attack (AoA) during pulse jet firing duration was deduced, and the flight stability of the projectile was discussed. A constraint condition of the impulse magnitude and the distance from the projectile centroid to individual pulse jet was provided. The results indicate that lateral pulse jet control has no influence on the dynamic stability condition, the trailing stability condition, and the resonance unstability condition. For the motion to be stable, following the action of pulse jets, the impulse magnitude and the pulse force acting point should be limited, such that the increment amplitude of AoA induced by the detonation of pulse jets is under an allowed upper limit.
