Aiming at problems in the availability study of the combat units (CU), multi-dimensional Markov processes (MDMP) model is established to evaluate the availability of CU.A dimension reduction algorithm is presented for the great amount of states in MDMP model.The multiple equipment in CU are considered in the model.The algorithm reduces the dimension of MDMP based on the relevance of maintenance resources between different parts.The results illustrate that MDMP can model the availability of CU and has comprehensive analytical modeling capacity; the dimension reduction algorithm utilizing the relation information between different parts can reduce the computational load.Lastly, by a numerical example, the practicability of the MDMP model and the algorithm are illustrated.
