Abstract
The surface composition and surface morphology of W-Mo alloying layer by the double glow plasma surface alloying process were depicted by SEM examination, and the chemical state of the surface elements was confirmed by XPS analysis. It was found that the micro-grooves of the surface ionized by double glow plasma surface alloy?ing, in which there was a lower W-Mo concentration. Detailed XPS analysis revealed the chemical states of the alloying elements. Fe, W and Mo in the surface alloying layer exist in the atomic state but not as compounds or of high concentration alloying layer. After the alloying processes, the intermetallics Fey(WMo)S are precipitated inside the grain and the Doundaries.
