Abstract

A hot pressing fabrication technology in which copper plated ttingsten wires are sicitered. in tlie preparation of W/Cu composites has been studied. Owing to the tendency of strength degradation of colddrawn tungsten wires at temperatures above 1123K and an aggravation of strength degradation with prolonged hot pressing , it is suggested fromthe experim ent that hot pressing temperature ought to be limited below 1123K, and that hot pressing time kept within 30-60min. It can also be shown that W/Cu composites haying fine properties may be produced by appropriate hot pressing parameters,In most cases, the tensile strength of W/Cu composites may reach 80-90% of the level of the theo retical ROM value.
